9th Grade Reflection
Freshman year was a good time and I still remember it very well. It took some getting used to because I had just started getting used to high school and public school all together. I went to this school, International High, that year and I don’t regret it. I loved my schedule. I had gotten all of the classes that I asked for.
The classes that I really did shine in would have to be English, French, Band, and Theatre Arts. I’m not that surprised that I did well in them. I love English, and I really enjoy reading and writing. Whenever I had an assignment in that class, it was always fun for me. I especially enjoyed the field trip we took to HBU to see Romeo & Juliet, one of my favorite plays. French was another thing I was passionate about because everyone in my family speaks French. It was really hard for me to earn an A for a while but in the second semester I did and that made me very proud. Band was also a very fun class because it meant that I got to hang out with my best friends and dance. I met those girls because of band and we spent most of our time together. We went to the store, watched movies, and just hung out together. Nothing was more fun that year than making up routines and being with my Winter Guard girls. Well, maybe one thing: being in Theatre class. My teacher was so wise and talented and the class actually challenged me on so many levels. So, while it wasn’t easy, it was an important growing experience for me. I really enjoyed all of these classes and I think that’s why I did so well in them.
On another note, there were some classes that I wasn’t so great in. I named them my “B classes” because I usually had a B in them. These classes were IPC, World Geography, Guitar, and Algebra. IPC was not easy for me and I’ve never been that great at science. But I did work hard in that class and I think I could’ve done better. World Geography was actually pretty easy for me but a couple of things led to me not doing as well as I could. I’m proud to say that by the end of the year, I did pull through to get an A. Now, my next class sounds easy because it was just playing the guitar. But, the thing is that I wasn’t that comfortable at playing the guitar at first. I work as hard as I could but I do think that I deserved a B because I could have worked even harder. Lastly, Algebra class was my other challenging class because I’m not great at math. I never have been and I doubt I ever will be. But, I do think I worked hard and I had a teacher that believed in me. At the end of the second semester I came very close to getting an A but I didn’t quite make it. Yet, I’m still satisfied because I got the grade I deserved and I did my best.
So, with all of the twists and turns of my freshman year, I still made it through. My most memorable moment of that year would have to be the Mardis Gras parade that the marching band marched in. I had a great time, I made new friends, and the band really came together and had fun. I’m really glad I got to participate and it made my freshman year even better than I thought it would be.
